How do I cite a video from a database streaming service?

Note: This post relates to content in the eighth edition of the MLA Handbook. For up-to-date guidance, see the ninth edition of the MLA Handbook.

When you cite a work from a database, you should supply the original publication details for the work because the work is only housed, not republished, in the database.

So if you are citing a video you accessed through a database, follow the MLA format template. In your works-cited-list entry, provide the publication information for the video itself as the first container and then provide information about the database as the second container. The following is an example of what an entry might look like:

World War II: The Propaganda Battle. Films Media Group, 2010. Films on Demand, www.infobase.com/tag/films-on-demand.

Note that since the video is an independent work, its title is italicized. Read more on how to style titles of online works.
